All businesses go through ups and downs in their client intake – some months, you’ll sign on a record number of clients, and others, you essentially hear crickets. While this is fairly normal, there are a few things you can do to keep a steady stream of new clients coming… without breaking the bank. Huify reports that attracting a new client can be five times more expensive than retaining your current ones. So, in addition to retaining current clients, exercise these tips to get more business coming through your door. Even better: these tips can be applied year-round, not just in the down seasons.
1. Use social media to build relationships.
Of course, today’s best method for meeting new people is via social media! Especially with Instagram features such as the Explore page, hashtags, and the ability to see similar profiles, your clients are likely one click away. Take it from Sydney Campos, an Intuitive Healer, Energy, and Embodiment Expert, International Speaker and Author of The Empath Experience: What To Do When You Feel Everything. She started her own coaching and consulting company in 2016 and has been generating a consistent 6 figures a year since the start. She swears by Instagram, noting that “We all have that intuitive sense or resonance when we happen to “stumble upon” someone who seems familiar to us on social media and know we’re called to collaborate with them or learn from them in some way.” In that vein, she’s met some of her best clients on the platform.
2. Offer an Instagram giveaway with a free session.
Another way to use Instagram to generate buzz is by hosting a giveaway on your page. For example, if you’re a money mindset expert, offer a complimentary 20 minute session in your giveaway and ask your followers to tag two friends in order to enter. That way, the friends they tag will see your page which promotes more marketing. And, when a winner is announced, those who entered but didn’t win will likely still want a session with you and feel compelled to purchase!
3. Start an SEO-friendly blog on your website
Client attraction and SEO are closely intertwined. The use of blog content to help websites rank higher on Google search has been a wildly popular strategy in recent years, simply because it works. Single Grain advises that the best way to get started is to research keywords that your target market may search. For example, if you run a skincare company, use Keywords Everywhere or a similar tool to see what people are researching around the keyword “skincare.” Then, plug these keywords into your blog post so that your website ranks higher.
4. Host an event with your target market
Events are a great way to get to know potential clients near you, or in a city you’re visiting. Get a panel together to discuss a topic related to your company (for example: if you run a digital marketing agency, it could be on ‘digital marketing trends in the 21st century’) and host it at a coworking space that can help you publicize the event. Business Woman Media recommends seeking sponsorship from “other firms and businesses which are closely affiliated with yours in exchange for extensive advertising on the day.” Sponsors can also advertise the event to their channels – which means more traffic for your event!
5. Master what you’re selling.
Finally, perhaps the best way to attract more clients is just to be downright good at what you do. Rachel Bell is the 23 year old founder of Online Coach Accelerator, which is a mentorship program that includes a 4-module video program, customized mentorship, and accountability coaching. She has been building online influence & audiences since age 12, and weighed in on this important point.
“Whenever people hear that I have built two 7-figure businesses — with no paid promotion whatsoever — they always ask about my marketing strategy. Like there’s a “magic trick” they can learn and get the same results…. But instead of “marketing,” I invest a ton of time and energy in providing unforgettable results to the clients I already have,” she shared. “I out-care the competition.”
After all, if you provide your clients with unbelievable results, they’re likely to rave to their friends – and hire you again! Make sure to invest MORE time into delivering for your current clients than the time you spend finding new ones. It will pay off.
