MCC's marketing mavens take home several awards – Lowell Sun

Middlesex Community College’s Office of Marketing Communications keeps piling up awards from national organizations.

MCC was recognized for outstanding work by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations at its recent national conference in San Antonio, Texas. Middlesex received a 2018 Silver Paragon Award for its social-media campaign, “MCC Shout-Out Celebration.”

Affiliated with the American Association of Community Colleges, NCMPR has 1,700 members from nearly 650 colleges across the U.S. and Canada. NCMPR’s prestigious gold, silver and bronze Paragon Awards recognize outstanding achievement in communications at community and technical colleges. This year’s competition drew 1,939 entries from 262 colleges.

The MCC Shout-Out Celebration was designed to increase excitement around graduation 2018, and provide a venue for students to show appreciation to outstanding faculty and staff. Using a variety of social-media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, students were asked to give a shout-out to a faculty or staff member who had had an impact on them during their time at the college. More than 90 entries were recorded, then edited into a three-minute video shared during commencement on all social-media platforms.

The Office of Marketing Communications earned 10 awards — including five Gold Awards — at the 34th annual Educational Advertising Awards competition sponsored by Higher Education Marketing Report.


The largest higher-education advertising awards competition in the country, this year’s contest drew more than 2,200 entries from more than 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools from all 50 states and several foreign countries.

Middlesex earned Gold Awards in the categories of Logo Design (for the MCC Library logo), Newsletter (Middlesex Connector), External Publication (Profiles magazine, spring 2018 issue), Social Media (MCC Shout Out Celebration) and Special Promotions (Academic Arts Center Open House).

MCC earned Silver Awards in the categories of Brochure (for the Aspire Campaign to support students and arts programming), Class Schedules (Summer Corporate/Community Education & Training), Imprinted Materials (MCC Pop Socket), and Other (“An Evening in Verona”).

The college also received a Merit Award in the Special Video Production category (for the Richard and Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center).

Finally, MCC’s marketing team three Gold Awards and three Silver Awards in the sixth annual Education Digital Marketing Awards competition.

Sponsored by Higher Education Marketing Report, the Educational Digital Marketing Awards competition recognizes the best educational websites, digital content, electronic communications, mobile media and social media. This year, more than 1,000 entries were received from colleges, universities and secondary schools across the United States. A national panel of industry specialists reviewed each piece, judging creativity, marketing execution, message impact, technology application and innovation content.

Middlesex earned three Gold Awards in the categories of Course/Content Schedule (Summer 2018 Noncredit Semester Advising Schedule); Intranet Site (The Middlesex Connector); and Online Publication (Profiles magazine, Spring 2018 issue).

Middlesex also earned three Silver Awards in the categories of Digital Video (Precision Machining Video, created by Ben Consoli Media for GPSTEM); Online Display Ad (The Sun ad series, Discover Your Path); and Social Media (#MCCShoutOut Campaign).
