‘You will never forget something like that’: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bernd Leno reveal Arsenal used Jesse Lingard’s FA Cup celebration as motivation to beat Manchester United
- Arsenal beat Manchester United 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon
- In January, United won 3-1 at Arsenal to knock them out of the FA Cup
- Jesse Lingard scored United’s second and celebrated by doing the moonwalk
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bernd Leno have confessed Jesse Lingard’s goal celebration in Manchester United’s recent FA Cup win at the Emirates motivated Arsenal to their revenge victory.
Granit Xhaka’s strike and Aubameyang’s penalty saw Arsenal win 2-0 to end Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s unbeaten domestic streak since taking caretaker charge at Old Trafford in December.
Lingard celebrated a goal in United’s 3-1 FA Cup fourth round win at the Emirates Stadium back in January by moon-walking in front of the Arsenal supporters.

The England international had previously scored twice in the league clash in north London last season and irked Arsenal fans by posting his recent celebration on Instagram with the location set as ‘dance floor’.
Mesut Ozil appeared to reference Lingard, who missed Sunday’s game through injury, in a post-match tweet on Sunday evening.
Aubameyang said: ‘Of course (the celebration) was extra motivation. I actually had a special celebration planned for this game tonight, but I could not find my mask!
‘But no worries. We are happy because the most important thing is the three points. And it is a really, really good feeling.’
Goalkeeper Leno added: ‘I don’t know but in your mind you will never forget something like that, when somebody is celebrating.
‘You don’t want to see it again so we were motivated and we knew before the game about our chance because Man United had one point than us.’

Having missed a spot kick in the north London derby, Aubameyang exorcised those demons with his successful spot kick against United.
‘I had no doubt about taking it, it’s about feeling. We don’t care about who is shooting the penalty, the most important thing is to score.
‘After [Alexandre] Lacazette got the penalty he said to me: “You have to shoot”. I feel well and I was ready to score.
‘I watched it a lot, the penalty I missed. I knew that I made a mistake when I shot last week, but in life you have to always look forwards and I had to be focused and that’s what I was tonight.’
