After playing in four consecutive title-winning seasons and coming off back-to-back championships, it’s hard to wake up every day and find the kind of motivation needed to work toward a goal that you’ve already accomplished three times. And this has been one of the reasons the Warriors are so happy to have DeMarcus Cousins on the team.

Not only is he a phenomenal player who, once 100 percent, will add a dynamic to the team the Warriors haven’t had during their prior runs, Cousins’ presence gives them a reason to go out and compete every night and stay focused on winning another ring, according to Steve Kerr via The Athletic.

“There’s the dynamic that I felt in Chicago a couple times,” Steve Kerr said. “After we won a couple championships, it was win one for (assistant coach) Frank Hamblen. Win one for Joe Klein. Win one for the guys who had never won a title before.

“When you’ve won back-to-back titles, you look for motivation, you look for joy, you look for things that are different. So I think that a lot of our guys are just excited to have DeMarcus, but they also want to see him win a championship. That’s powerful.”

So, the Warriors want to win one for Cousins, knowing that it’s nearly impossible he’ll be back next season is the kind of motivating factor a team like the Warriors need. Every one of the regular rotation players has at least one title, and most have multiple from playing with this franchise over the last five seasons.

Cousins has never logged a minute in the playoffs, however. After 10 years, he’s more than excited about playing for something bigger than himself. He’s found the right franchise to do it with, as the Warriors have been able to cast aside egos for the most part, and they were more than willing to bring in a guy who will demand the ball. It’s a great reason to rally, though, and Boogie will be in a position to give back to his teammates once the playoffs start what they’re giving him now.
