First-ever Kansas sheep symposium comes to Hutchinson

Written by admin

Hutchinson will be home to the state’s first-ever sheep symposium in late October.

The Kansas Sheep Association and Kansas State University Extension worked together to host the symposium Oct. 26 and 27 at the Atrium Hotel and Conference Center.

According to Kansas Sheep Association President Jeff Ebert, the symposium will have something for those involved with all facets of the sheep industry.

“Our goal is to provide a program that is beneficial to all of the sheep producers of Kansas,” Ebert said in a release. “Whether they have a commercial, club lamb, seed stock or hobby flock. Hopefully, we’ve met this goal.”

The event will kick off Friday with a tour of local sheep operations, followed by a forum on operating methods, an industry trade show and more.

A keynote speech will be given by Ohio sheep producer and secretary of the American Sheep Industry, Susan Shultz.

Several speakers from the industry will also present on topics from online marketing to management tips and more.

Symposium topics include:

Ewe Nutrition

Flock Management

Pasture Management
