Self Help Workplace adds commercial shredding service to business

Written by admin

The office officially added commercial shredding to its business on Friday, with workers and guests gathering for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Not only will the Self Help Workplace be able to provide a confidential shredding service for businesses in the area, but the waste will be recycled into paper towel products.

Self Help Workplace general manager Donna Bain said the shredder was a welcome addition to the work space.

“We’ve trained a number of new employees to use the shredder and they are having a absolute ball,” she said.

“It’s important for us to explore opportunities where people can learn new ways of doing things.

“They really get a sense of achievement out of the work they do here.”

Established in 1962, Self Help Workplace provides employment for people with a disability.

The enterprise includes Encore Clothing, Prime Timber Products, Merit Commercial Solutions and Plenty Catering and Hire.

A grounds maintenance service is also set to be launched towards the end of the year.

Ms Bain said business units had to satisfy a specific criteria before being included as part of Self Help Workplace.

“First we ask if our supporters are able to do the work required, and if it is safe,” she said.

“Next we ask if they are going to enjoy doing it, and finally if the operation is commercially viable.”
