EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) —
The new UTEP athletic director Jim Senter wants to make sure fans are going to games.
Senter said the Miners not only need to win on the field and the court, but they need to win on the streets.
“Every person can make a difference. Every person makes a difference,” said Senter.
A big part of making a difference starts with a good marketing strategy for UTEP Athletics.
“We need help in grassroots marketing, which means us engaging more people and building a fan base of volunteers which can help us reach the masses of El Paso. We have to embed ourselves, where we grow a fan base, organically. And authentically, to be able to earn their trust and their respect and their time to come support us,” said Senter.
The athletics department is launching a new fan council with 30 community advocates.
Senter hopes the council will help UTEP pinpoint what needs to be done to get fans in the stands.
